An introductory message from Al Buchanan, owner and proprietor:

“New Wine of the Week” is an important new section in our newsletter.  Its purpose is to showcase, each week, a single noteworthy wine that we recently added to our collection. While the wines showcased in this “New Wine of the Week” section are not “economy” wines (we have those, also!), they squarely meet our demanding criteria for quality and value.

Try a 2-ounce tasting for $5 and put the  $5 toward your bottle purchase of the wine! Come early, samples are limited! *

The “Wine of the Week” is Le Vigne, Acquarello, Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles, 2013 - $49.99

Inviting red fruit aromas of strawberry and cherry are given a dose of intrigue with dill and black pepper spice on the nose of this bottling. There is a welcome touch of herbs to the palate, from oregano to thyme to dill, which bolster the primary black cherry and blueberry fruits.

In 2003, Winemaker Michael Barreto was offered the opportunity to work at Le Vigne Winery. Le Vigne is the culmination of a love of food, wine, and family shared by owners Walter and Sylvia Filippini. Michael is credited with elevating the quality and reputation of the wines over the years and is honored to be a part of the Le Vigne family. His success as a winemaker is partially attributed to his strong background in Agricultural Business including produce sales, farming analysis and accounting; this prepared him with a well-rounded view of business that complements his winemaking skills.

Walter Filippini spent his younger years at his parent’s home in the lakeside town of Como, Italy and spent many summers working with his grandparents on their vineyard in the agriculturally rich region of Valtellina.

The Filippini family history in the Paso Robles area began in the early 1960’s when winery owner, Sylvia Filippini’s, family purchased the property where Le Vigne winery now stands. Early on, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon were planted to supplement the growing demand of other wine growing regions like Napa and Sonoma. As the vines matured, growers and winemakers began to see real potential for the area with its unique soils, climate and coastal influence.

The grapes grown on the estate were highly regarded by local producers and always in demand. Recognizing the quality, the family began making wine with grapes from the property and built a state of the art winery in 1995. They expanded the wineries varieties to include: Merlot, Syrah, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc in addition to the original plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Additionally small blocks of Grenache, Petite Sirah, Malbec and Tannat were planted.
